Is Representative Sheila Butt (R-TN) Guilty of Racism?

State Rep. Sheila Butt is on the hot seat because of a Facebook post that some have denounced as racist. Butt posted, “It is time for a Council on Christian Relations and an NAAWP in this country.” Her remarks drew fire from the nation’s The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), which have demanded that Tennessee Republicans repudiate her comments. Although it is assumed that Rep. Butt was endorsing the creation of a National Association for the Advancement of White People, she claims her NAAWP comment was meant to refer to the National Association for the Advancement of Western Peoples.
