Oscars 2015, Got On My Last Nerve

There was a time when glamour, elegance and glass were the hallmarks of the Oscars. We can say that no more.  In the good old days, stars were dressed in elegant gowns, white ties and tails, arriving on the red carpet in Packards and Duesenburgs. Winners thanked the academy, their fellow actors, their studio, and all who came to see their movies. Alas, those days are long gone. Welcome to the Oscars 2015 where, yes, they did mention movies every once and a while, but mostly it was an evening of left-wing politicking and gripping about any cause near and dear to the hearts of the Hollywood elite. Not that there is something wrong with celebs endorsing causes. It’s just the perfect storm. Leftist political activism runs a muck. We are bombarded with cries of social injustice by those paid millions to entertain us.

One after another they came to the mic. Patricia Arquette calling for Congress to pass the Fair Pay Act, Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu with a snide remark about immigration restrictions and the writers of the song “Glory” for the movie “Selma” turning their acceptance speech into a diatribe on the Voting Rights Act. Wrong place, wrong time. This is all so heavy handed, playing on their celebrity status to speak on issues they barely know to that huge TV audience. Just once I wish one of them would get on the stage, thank the Academy, thank God, thank their parents, smile, and take that funny little statute, go sit down and be done with it.
