Edward Archer (Arrested for Ambushing a Philadelphia Police Officer)

There are none so blind as those who refuse to see.  The latest example of this idiom in action is Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney’s statement contradicting the account of a Muslim man arrested for critically wounding a police officer. According to media accounts, Edward Archer,  the 30-year-old man arrested for shooting Officer Jesse Hartnett, proclaimed his allegiance to ISIS and told police officers his deed was done in the name of Islam.  Unfortunately, Mayor Jim Kenney who obviously understands the political nature of the hate crime has taken it upon himself to contradict the shooter.  Mayor Kenney has declared that the police shooting had nothing to do with Muslims or Islam.

Taking his cues from President Obama, Mayor Kenney has placed the blame for the shooting on guns and not a need for greater monitoring of people like Mr. Archer. According to Mayor Kenney,  “There are just too many guns on the streets and I think our national government needs to do something about that.”

We have a problem in America.  It is the blindness of political leaders like Mayor Kenney who refuse to acknowledge the threat of Islamic violence coming from a people who have rejected American values and culture.  All the gun control in the world will not stop this group from committing hate crimes.   Whether the weapon of choice is guns, bombs, or knives, we can expect religiously-motivated hate crimes to continue.
