Sore Losers: TN Amendment 1’s Foes Get Real Nasty After their Defeat in the Mid-Term Election
You remember those kids when you were growing up. The ones who would always either throw their cards in the air or mess up all of the playing pieces just because they lost the game and become pouty about it? They just couldn’t take getting beat fair and square. Well, they’re all grown up now and they’re back and they’re the “No” side of Amendment 1. Yes, they lost again and no, they are not taking it very well. Unable to throw their cards in the air or toss a game board in this case, they’re doing what a pouty big kid would do. They run for the lawyers and file a lawsuit.
Amendment 1 was, of course, the amendment that sought to place common sense protections in the sate of Tennessee regarding the uninspected and unlicensed abortion facilities. It also helps to keep our state from being an abortion destination. Its opponents are now saying that the ballots were not correctly counted and have filed a lawsuit in federal court asking to get the results nullified. So what’s their beef? They say that those who may have voted for the amendment but neglected to vote in the governor’s race should be discounted. Ok, what about it? According to official statistics, “Even if you disqualify all the amendment 1 voters not voting in the governor’s race, but cast a ballot for or against the amendment, Yes on 1 still enjoyed a margin of 19,876 votes about the number needed for approval.” This suit could also nullify the other amendments from this year’s ballot. You lost fair and square, No on 1 folks, now stop your pouting, don’t insult the intelligence and integrity of the voters of Tennessee, and forget your lawsuit because this is going to make a much bigger mess than just throwing your cards up in the air or flipping over the game board. So why don’t you just give us all a break and stop being those kids!
